Elmeryn Studios: A Humble Beginning

Elmeryn Studios is the creation of a humble solo developer who, while handling all the development work, understands he is not truly alone. The support of a few key people plays a significant role in his journey. For him, making games isn’t just a career choice—it’s a passion that has greatly improved his mental health. The studio's name, "Elmeryn," has a unique origin, inspired phonetically by the god of creation from the Jade Cocoon series.

The Journey So Far

He has been working on his current project, Domus Abscondita, for about a year. Overall, including time spent on smaller projects and learning about taxes, marketing, and other essentials, he has been at it for around two years. Although he started making games 20 years ago with RPG-Maker and other software as a hobby, it was always just for fun until he transitioned to game development full-time. After eight years in Corporate IT, feeling overworked and unhappy, he decided—with the encouragement of his wife—to pursue indie game development full-time.

Domus Abscondita: The First Release

Domus Abscondita is his first game that he started, finished, and published, though it is not his first game ever made. The inspiration for this horror game began with a vision of creating a puzzle-detective atmosphere. However, it soon evolved into a game with an eerie vibe, blending puzzles with a sense of managing resources like light, creating an unsettling experience. Although horror elements emerged naturally, the puzzle and mystery aspects remain the core focus.

Looking Ahead

Looking ahead, he’s open to creating more horror games, but only with new and innovative ideas. For now, his next project will lean more into action. Additionally, he plans to continue the story of Domus, potentially expanding it into a series where the gameplay could evolve into a more action-oriented experience, revealing more of the narrative. Elmeryn Studios is just beginning its journey, with exciting new projects and stories on the horizon!
